Grab Bag, end with the rock.

Hello everyone! It’s time for the weekly Grab Bag!

Was Goliath a giant?

1 Samuel 17:4
And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.

Short answer, No. Long answer, keep reading. :)

So, doing a little research on history six cubits and a span is between 8 and 12 feet tall. This varies because of how a cubit and span are measured. Cubits are measured from the elbow to the tip of the hand (mine is about 15 inches). Spans are measured from a stretched out hand from tip of the thumb to the tip of the little finger x3 (mine is about 8.5 inches). So, six of my cubits and one span is about 115.5 inches = to 9.625 feet. Sun Mingming here is a whole 7′ 9″ as a comparison.

Nowhere have I found it saying Goliath was a giant. All I have found was a description. There are other points in the bible which talk about the “sons of the giant”. Four of them in particular only two were named. Ishbibenob, which was of the sons of the giant. Saph, which was of the sons of the giant. The brother of Goliath the Gittite, which was of the sons of the giant. A man of great stature, six fingers on every hand, six toes on every foot, 24 in all, also was born to the giant. These four were born to the giant in Gath. It doesn’t give the height of these warriors of the Philistines. So we can’t really compare. We do know Goliath was one big boy. However, nothing says he was a giant.

Who buried Moses?

Deuteronomy 34:4-6
4 And the LORD said unto him, This is the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither.

5 So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD.

6 And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day.

The Lord buried Moses :)

The Lord is the beginning and the end, right? If he was the beginning of the people of Israel as a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night, then how did he end the people?

1 Corinthians 10:2
And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

He ended them by following them, He was the rock!

And let God be magnified! Please send in more questions! I have added the smaller form to the sidebar on the right to make it easier for questions to be submitted. If anyone has any feedback for the website, I am open to any and all suggestions! Enjoy.

  1. So where exactly did giants come from, and
Goliath was a son of a giant but wasn’t one? Or just not
    Mentioned so cant be answered

    • Thanks for the comment! :) It isn’t really a question of “where did they came from?”. It is more of a question of “who did they came from?”. This is because a giant is a person, a very large person. Who did they come from? I would in the most polite way say “their parents”. I haven’t found anything to state otherwise. It didn’t say Goliath was the son of a giant. It stated four who were the sons of the giant, but it still didn’t say those four were giants.

  2. Dumb you didn’t even answer his question, just kinda danced around it while trying to sound illeligent

    • Thanks for the comment Ahab. I will let Brother Thomas decide if I answered his question or not. :)
