Grab Bag with an ark full

Time for the weekly Grab Bag again!

I got a question from Eric in the comments from the last Grab Bag:
How long was Noah, his family, and the animals housed within the Ark?

We can’t know for sure how long they were on the ark, it doesn’t say “they were on the ark for x amount of days”.
What we can do is use the scripture to get a round about time frame. The below shows when the flood started to occur, at this point they were already on the ark for 7 days.

Genesis 7:10-11
10 And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth.
11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.

Genesis 8:14-16
14 And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dried.
15 And God spake unto Noah, saying,
16 Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons’ wives with thee.

If we use our current calendar, yes the modern one, Noah and company entered into the ark on February 10th. The rain came 7 days later. When they finally got off of the ark it was February 27th of the next year. So lets do some addition and subtraction. There are 365 days in a year. 27 – 10 = 17. So, 17 + 365 = 382 days. Now the Jewish calendar is probably the calendar which they went by. The Jewish calendar only has 29-30 days in a month and 12-13 months in a year… depending on how everything falls. It just so happens to be similar enough to the calendar we currently use and we can also guess around the same time. So the time frame I would give? Between 375 – 395 days, just to give a little buffer because I really don’t know for sure.

Thanks for the question Eric!

Did God create evil?

Isaiah 45:7
I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.

From the looks of it here, he did.

What is Godliness?

1 Timothy 4:8
For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

Here, godliness is compared to bodily exercise. Each are profitable, but only one is profitable unto all things. If bodily exercise profit little, then spiritual exercise is profitable unto all things. Yes? Godliness = Spiritual exercise :)

Grab Bag Sunday!

The Grab Bag is here, late, but here.

Is Patience a Virtue?

Luke 8: 43-46
43 And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,
44 Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.
45 And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
46 And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.

Here Virtue heals a woman.

Proverbs 12:4
A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.

Here it’s a woman who is pure and clean.

2 Peter 1:3-8
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Here you add it to your faith.

So, to understand what patience is, you need to understand virtue. All of this explains virtue to be a “pureness” aspect. A woman was purified from touching Jesus’ clothes, and it healed her. A pure woman is a crown to her husband. So, what is patience? It’s an attribute. Virtue is also an attribute. Attribute’s of God. God is Holy. Then having holiness is having the attributes of God. Virtue and Patience are two attributes of God, listed among others.

What were the number of each animal, which went into the ark Noah built?

Genesis 7:2-3
2 Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female.
3 Of fowls also of the air by sevens, the male and the female; to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth.

So, seven of every clean beast an and two of every beast not clean.

Does Matthew 28:19 mean there is such thing as a Trinity?

Matthew 28:19
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Trinity by definition means three persons. In this verse, it specifically says “name”, which is singular. The name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost would then be the same name. This means one name for all of the titles.

Isaiah 9:6
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Here, are a few of the other titles which describe the son which is born.

So the answer to the question here is, “No”. There is no such thing as Trinity.

I hope everyone has a good Sunday! Leave a comment or send in feedback for what you think!

Grab Bag, end with the rock.

Hello everyone! It’s time for the weekly Grab Bag!

Was Goliath a giant?

1 Samuel 17:4
And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.

Short answer, No. Long answer, keep reading. :)

So, doing a little research on history six cubits and a span is between 8 and 12 feet tall. This varies because of how a cubit and span are measured. Cubits are measured from the elbow to the tip of the hand (mine is about 15 inches). Spans are measured from a stretched out hand from tip of the thumb to the tip of the little finger x3 (mine is about 8.5 inches). So, six of my cubits and one span is about 115.5 inches = to 9.625 feet. Sun Mingming here is a whole 7′ 9″ as a comparison.

Nowhere have I found it saying Goliath was a giant. All I have found was a description. There are other points in the bible which talk about the “sons of the giant”. Four of them in particular only two were named. Ishbibenob, which was of the sons of the giant. Saph, which was of the sons of the giant. The brother of Goliath the Gittite, which was of the sons of the giant. A man of great stature, six fingers on every hand, six toes on every foot, 24 in all, also was born to the giant. These four were born to the giant in Gath. It doesn’t give the height of these warriors of the Philistines. So we can’t really compare. We do know Goliath was one big boy. However, nothing says he was a giant.

Who buried Moses?

Deuteronomy 34:4-6
4 And the LORD said unto him, This is the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither.

5 So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD.

6 And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day.

The Lord buried Moses :)

The Lord is the beginning and the end, right? If he was the beginning of the people of Israel as a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night, then how did he end the people?

1 Corinthians 10:2
And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

He ended them by following them, He was the rock!

Grab Bag of Faith

Hebrews 11:1
1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Hebrews 11:6
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Romans 10:17
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Romans 10:14-15
14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

What is Faith? How do you get it? These are the two questions for this Grab Bag. What is Faith has already been answered, so here I will delve into it a little further. So Faith is the substance of things hoped for: when you sit in a chair you don’t think about whether or not it is going to hold you, you have faith towards it holding you up when you sit in it. Evidence of things not seen: you didn’t see the chair be put together but once you sit in it, it holds you up, which is the evidence of something you didn’t see happen.

Without Faith it is impossible to please God. So using our English, we know Faith pleases God. That’s not to say Faith is the only thing which pleases God, we just know without Faith it is impossible to please God.

So, sometimes when I read, I read the scripture backwards and it helps me get a revelation or have something revealed that I wouldn’t see normally. Romans 10 (above) is a good example. To receive Faith you have to hear the word. How do you hear the word? Through a preacher. How can he preach? He has to be sent. Consolidated: A sent preacher, preaches the word, for you to hear, to get faith. Right? Don’t forget, you have to get your ears which can hear the word too! -I will let you look that one up :)

There is another scripture:

Romans 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Here, the righteousness of God is revealed from hearing the word to hearing the word. The just shall live by hearing the word. So, once you hear the word enough, things start being revealed.

Something more to study to show yourself approved unto God :D

Grab Bag, Zombies?

Matthew 27

50Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.51And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;52And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,53And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

Were they zombies? I doubt it, zombies have been known to eat flesh and repeat the word “brains” over and over. Right? Which neither of those attributes are mentioned here. This is a little deeper than I thought when I first read it, because it talks about “after his resurrection”. So this particular occurrence didn’t happen until after the third day of his death. This is interesting, though I have read it many times, I haven’t noticed this particular part. Grab Bag the Third

Here is your weekly Grab Bag!

What happened to Elijah?

And it came to pass, when the LORD would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal. -2 Kings 2:1

And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. -2 Kings 2:11

Did unicorn’s ever exist?

Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib? Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee? -Job 39:9-10

Note: Yes, though it seems it was more like a rhino, rather than the mythical horse. So they still do exist, to make things more clear. Numbers 23:22 also talks about the strength of a unicorn.

When was the sun created?

And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. -Genesis 1:14-16
