Blog Post Grab Bag

Grab Bag of the old testament foxes and mantles.

Well its the first official Grab Bag on a Monday (though it is Tuesday)! I hope this format works a little better than the other way. The main thing is I want anyone and everyone to get involved with contributing to this website. So the idea was to give a longer time from the Grab Bag to the podcast to get any questions in about the Grab Bag. This is so we can go over them on the episode with everyone else. :)So anyways, on to the first question! When it comes to doing what the Bible says, why do you believe that you have to do what’s in the Old Testament?  The Old Testament was for the Israelites.  The main things we (as Gentiles) are to live by are in the New Testament because that’s where Jesus gave the instructions and the example. -Olive

2 Timothy 3:16-17
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Why? For doctrine, reproof, correction and instruction in righteousness. :) Thanks for the good question Olive!

The old testament is what the Israelites/Jewish people went through. I wouldn’t say it’s for the Israelites, though the law part was for them, when it was given to Moses. However, there is still doctrine, reproof, correction and instruction in righteousness in the old testament.

One thing to keep in mind is the type and shadows from the old testament. The new testament is actually hidden in the old testament with things like Genesis 22:8 “God will provide himself a lamb”. Or with Isaiah 28:11 “For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to his people.”

I hope that was a clear enough answer.

How many foxes did Samson catch?

Judges 15:4
4 And Samson went and caught three hundred foxes, and took firebrands, and turned tail to tail, and put a firebrand in the midst between two tails.

He caught 300 foxes. That… is a lot of foxes to “catch”. I would like to see how that was done!

What did Elisha take up after Elijah was taken up in a whirlwind?

2 Kings 2:13
13 He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan;

He took up the mantle. It was part of his portion.

Grab Bag, that was not!

Here is your weekly Grab Bag!

What happen to Enoch?

Genesis 5:24
And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

He was not.

What are the sons of God?

Genesis 6:2
That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.

Job 1:6
Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.

Luke 3:38
Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.

John 1:12
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Romans 8:14
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

1 John 3:1-2
1Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
2Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

The sons of God are the people of God, the church. In Genesis, the church started taking wives from the world. In Job, it shows the church having their church time, also that Satan goes to church with them. In Luke, it shows the lineage of the the chosen people. Seth was considered the first born, along with Jacob in earlier verses. God started and finished from Luke 3:23-38. In John, it talks about him giving power to become a son of God. Yes, you read that correctly. To become part of the church. In Romans, being led by the Spirit of God. And in John, it shows the church being the sons of God.

What was the last miracle Elisha performed?

2 Kings 13:21
And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.

A resurrection.
