Bible Study: What does it mean to take God’s name in vain?

Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. Exodus 20:7This is a follow up article of the last two articles and the reason the previous articles were written. Here is the first and second articles. It is recommended you read those two before this one. Because I think it will get you in the right frame of mind to understand this topic.

Starting with a scripture:

Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

The Wise and Prudent vs Babes

wise and prudent vs babesLast week I mentioned there were three articles I would be writing together. The verses used in these articles build upon each other so it just kind of makes sense for them to all be in this order. Last week was on “The Pride of Life” and some of the hindsight for me is: I could have used a few verses which would have made it better, but we will cover them here because they still work. So, to start this article we will begin with Matthew 11:25.

And at that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and the prudent, and has revealed them unto babes.
