The Wise and Prudent vs Babes

wise and prudent vs babesLast week I mentioned there were three articles I would be writing together. The verses used in these articles build upon each other so it just kind of makes sense for them to all be in this order. Last week was on “The Pride of Life” and some of the hindsight for me is: I could have used a few verses which would have made it better, but we will cover them here because they still work. So, to start this article we will begin with Matthew 11:25.

And at that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and the prudent, and has revealed them unto babes.

Matthew 11:25

Most people have probably read this verse and I think most people probably understand it as well. If you don’t, then don’t fret. Hopefully it will make sense soon.

The importance of this verse has to do with whether or not we are going to have something revealed to us. Are we the wise and prudent or the babes? Who gets the revelation? We know the babes are the ones who get the revealed things.

Lets talk about the wise and prudent.

Who are the Wise and Prudent?

This group of people are the “know-it-alls”. They already have all of the knowledge, they aren’t really searching for anything. We know this because when something is revealed, it is righteousness, which is the revealed knowledge of his word. We also know, those who hunger and thirst after righteousness shall be filled. Between the wise and prudent and the babes, we know the babes are getting the revealed knowledge because they are hungering and thirsting.

Lets also make sure we know there is a difference between the wisdom of God and the wisdom of man and how big that difference is.

Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

1 Corinthians 1:25

We know here even the foolishness of God is wiser than men. So wisdom isn’t bad… if God gives it to you. So the difference here is the wise and prudent are of man. Which is carnal. Here is an affirming verse for that:

For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.  7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

Romans 8:6-7

The carnal mind is enmity against God. So we can’t think in the flesh we must think in the spirit and obtain wisdom from God, this is the main point of this article.

Here is yet another verse which affirms this:

Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

Proverbs 3:7

If you are wise in your own eyes (of the flesh and carnal mind), then it isn’t good. We are commanded to fear the Lord which is the beginning of wisdom.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever

Psalms 111:10

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

Proverbs 9:10

And what wisdom is this? The wisdom of God.

Now that we have the wise and prudent down, lets move on to the babes.

Who are the Babes?

If anyone reading this has ever dealt with a newborn baby, then you know all they do for the first 6 months is one of three things: Eat, Poop, Sleep. That is pretty much it. They eat when they are hungry, poop when it’s time to go, and sleep like 12 hours a day.

Why am I bringing this up? Because that is the way we need to be, not necessarily referring to the pooping and sleeping part, but to the eating. Righteousness comes from faith to faith. Hearing the word. Eating the bread of life. The more we hunger and thirst after Righteousness (revealed knowledge), then the more we get filled.

For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Romans 1:17

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Matthew 5:6

It isn’t anything like, “Oh here is a little bit to hold you over”. No, its more like take as much as you want until you are full. Want a hamburger? Here’s a hamburger. Not full yet? Here’s a popsicle. Oh, want some more? Here’s a steak.

My question is, when do you stop? Are you ever going to be full? Or are you going to keep hungering and thirsting no matter how much you are fed?

Now what I am saying here, is all in the spirit. Righteousness is in the spirit. Things being revealed are in the spirit. So, how hungry are you? :)

Because babies don’t really know anything. They learn everything from their parents, so we as children of God learn from our parents. Our Father and Mother, which are God (Isaiah 9:6) and the Church (God’s bride).

So what is the point of this?

We have got to go into reading and learning like babes (or babies) to have anything revealed to us. We have got to know nothing, which can be hard to receive. I can say well I know all there is to know about Genesis 1:1-3 and as many times God has brought me back there to show me I didn’t know as much as I thought I did. That is one example.

A bigger point is some of us have been taught things our whole lives, and it’s been ingrained so much in us we believe it no matter what. As an example, if someone is taught the color blue is “black” for 40 years, it’s almost like “good luck changing their mind after 40 years of being taught this…”

So the point of this article is for us to realize we don’t know anything without God. We have to get our head out of what we think we know and search the scriptures for what it really says.

One of those things lots of people have been taught for a long time I am going to talk about in the next article. The whole article, which is why it was so important to get this and the previous article out.

Now how did the previous article tie into this one?

As you probably know it was about the “pride of life”. We know “only by pride cometh contention” and in the next article there may be contention because of the topic it is about. If we can get ourselves out of the way and stop being prideful, thinking we know everything, then we might start hungering and thirsting after righteousness, amen?

This article and the last one was focused for the next one, but it isn’t just for the next one. It’s for any of them you think you already know everything about. I know I don’t know everything which is why I keep learning and keep having things revealed, but I am not boasting. I say this because I want everyone to be hungry and thirsty for righteousness. I want everyone to know what I know, which isn’t anything without God…

We must continue to search the scriptures (John 5:39) & study to shew ourselves approved unto God (2 Timothy 2:15)

We have to keep going back to the word asking ourselves. Is that what it really means. Knowing we don’t know anything without God.

What do we do if we find something which conflicts with what we believe? Study… study… study… if your belief is truly contrary to the Bible, then you have got to remove that belief. I think of it as a big “delete” button. Because that belief no longer matters if there is no scripture for it.

So… who reading this is hungry? who reading this is a babe? I think we will find out in the next article.

Let God be magnified!
